Dealing with Difficult People
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Hebrews 12:14
We all have that one person who knows how to push our buttons and who causes us to lose our composure. The Bible tells us to, “live at peace with all men.” But, some people make living in peace extremely difficult. So how do we live at peace even with difficult people? First, we must realize you can’t change people. God has not given us the command to change people’s hearts, but He has given us the command to love people, even the difficult ones. Only God can change a person’s heart. We must stop trying to do His job. Secondly, we have to pray. Pray that God would help you know what to say to that person who tries your patience. And pray that God would change that person’s heart. Lastly, we have to follow Christ’s example. Remember Jesus washed Judas’s feet the very same night that Judas would betray our Lord. Be a kind servant, even to the one who intends to harm you.
We all deal with difficult people from time to time, and some seasons are worse than others. Yet, part of being a Christian is being a person committed to keeping the peace even when it’s extremely difficult to do so. The Lord understands that some difficult people will refuse to live in peace with us even when we make every effort to live in peace with them. God doesn’t expect us to make peace, but he does expect us to purse peace with all people, even the most difficult ones. May God bless you, and I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.
Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.
